Scribner Optioned and Gray Is With Team
To make room for Adam Rosales, Evan Scribner was optioned to Sacramento. Scribner came up when Tommy Milone was sent packing to Sacramento. Milone is significant to the other tidbit of info which is that Sonny Gray is travelling with the team and is expected to make his first MLB start tomorrow in Toronto. That is significant as that will mean another roster move will be necessary and it seems likely Rosales will be DFA’d for the third time in a little over a week. Unless Toronto decided a la Rangers to have him steal signs for a weekend while not playing, it’d seem that again he’d be likely to clear waivers and remain – still – with the A’s.
Regardless for today, Scribner is out. He has split his season between Sacramento (2.48 ERA, 1.74 FIP, 11.2 K/9, 2.0 BB/9, 0.3 HR/9 in 36 1/3 innings) and Oakland (5.03 ERA, 4.67 FIP, 5.0 K/9, 2.3 BB/9 and 1.4 HR/9 in 19 2/3 innings) with mixed results. He might be someone who could be a decent piece in a bullpen, but right now this year I don’t see his movement one way or the other to be a big deal. While the Gray move is not yet official, it appears Alberto Callaspo is not DL bound so Rosales will likely be DFA’d tomorrow to make room for his first MLB start. He thus far sports a 3.42 ERA and 2.74 FIP in 20 starts with the River Cats good for 9.0 K/9, 3.0 BB/9 and 0.4 HR/9 despite a high .337 BABIP. In his four innings of MLB ball he has yet to allow a run and sports a nifty 0.80 FIP. Milone has made one start for Sacramento since losing his spot on the MLB roster in Omaha where he threw five innings allowing two earned runs, on eight hits with a walk and seven strikeouts. Interestingly, I think Gray played himself onto the roster more so than Milone played himself off.
