Rosales Claimed by Rangers

August 2, 2013

Adam Rosales was claimed off of waivers by the Texas Rangers today. It made sense that the A’s would quickly put Rosales on waivers, but it didn’t make sense that someone would claim him. Given his lack of success (a .193/.268/.319 slash line with a .262 wOBA and 64 wRC+ in 153 plate appearances with Oakland for -0.1 WAR and a .211/.262/.263 slash line for a .243 wOBA and 35 wRC+ in 42 plate appearances for Sacramento) it isn’t clear why the Rangers would want him on their MLB club. But I guess if the first place A’s can find a spot for him so can the second place Rangers?

I wish Rosie the best of luck in Arlington – well not that much luck. But thankfully he is out of Oakland where he took up a roster slot that could be very well used in a better manner. I see this as an addition by subtraction for Oakland and a subtraction by addition for Texas. It’ll be interesting because the A’s of course play Texas at O.Co Coliseum tonight where Rosie will dress for the Rangers.
