Josh Reddick Activated off DL
Big news A’s fans, Josh Reddick shall return! Reddick will be in the A’s lineup Friday night as he returns from his stint on the disabled list. Reddick who hurt his wrist in the first weekend series in Houston but did not go to the disabled list until a few weeks later got off to a miserable start that we all hope was largely due to said injury as he hit just .152/.266/.250 in his 109 plate appearances before becoming officially sidelined. He managed just one home run well off his pace from 2012 when he had one home run every 21 plate appearances. His .240 wOBA and 47 wRC+ were horrid backed by a .191 BABIP which leads me to think it was injury as his other stats 12.8% BB% (which was actually besting his 2012 mark) and 22.9% K% didn’t look that far from usual for Reddick. In fact his plate discipline was dramatically better his O-swing% was 25.6% compared to 33.6% in 2012. Hopefully the time away has cured all ailments though he stopped in Stockton for a game (1-for-3) and Sacramento for three (2-for-11) and didn’t do anything too exciting.
To make room for Reddick the A’s optioned Luke Montz to Sacramento. Montz likewise was uninspiring albeit in his shorter stint with Oakland hitting to a paltry .179/.200/.393 in 30 plate appearances featuring a miserable 3.3% BB% as he tallied a wOBA of .248 and a wRC+ of 52 for -0.2 WAR. This move should improve the A’s as I have to believe they wouldn’t bring Reddick back until he is absolutely ready.
