Straily Optioned; Scribner Recalled
The A’s shuttle to Sacramento is in full force these days as following his spot start – and a miserable one at that – Dan Straily is being optioned back to Sacramento in exchange for the recently optioned Evan Scribner. Straily had a rough outing against the Angels Monday night and now has his season mark stand at a 6.35 ERA, though care of great peripherals in his 11 1/3 innings of work a 2.84 FIP backed by 13.5 K/9, 0.8 BB/9 and 1.6 HR/9. He is clearly being felled in part by his .370 BABIP and 53.6% strand rate but much cannot really be gleaned from two MLB starts. In Sacramento meanwhile Straily has been very sharp with three starts and 18 2/3 innings of 9.6 K/9, 2.9 BB/9 and 0.0 HR/9 baseball for a 0.96 ERA and still strong 2.02 FIP.
Scribner’s return trip to Sacramento yielded him three and a third innings of 8.10 ERA and 5.90 FIP baseball as he managed 5.4 K/9, 0.0 BB/9 and 2.7 HR/9 with an atrocious 38.5% strand rate – not what one would call “relief” pitching. In Oakland thus far this year Scribner owns a 4.26 ERA and 4.03 FIP backed by 4.3 K/9, 2.8 BB/9 and 0.7 HR/9 in his 12 2/3 innings across eight appearances.
