Straily Recalled; Chavez Optioned

April 29, 2013

Brett Anderson will miss his start today and Dan Straily has been recalled to take his spot. It seems Anderson who hurt his ankle in Tampa Bay last weekend will not be headed to the disabled list as the corresponding roster move was to demote reliever Jesse Chavez. Straily despite throwing just one start was great in it, sporting a -0.54 FIP along with 14.9 K/9, 0.0 BB/9, 0.0 HR/9. He will fill in admirably for Anderson. Straily has looked great in Sacramento this year throwing 18 2/3 innings of 9.6 K/9, 2.9 BB/9 and 0.0 HR/9 baseball for a 0.96 ERA and great 2.02 FIP in his three starts.

Chavez during this latest stint with the A’s, appeared in three games for a total of four and a third innings of 6.2 K/9, 2.1 BB/9 and 0.0 HR/9 baseball for a 2.32 FIP, however his .412 BABIP and 50.0% strand rate helped elevate his ERA to a much uglier (and more in line with his career results – 5.99) 6.23.
