Update from San Francisco: March 28/Recap: A’s @ Giants Game 31

March 28, 2013
  • The A’s played the Giants in San Francisco at AT&T Park tonight. I get why they do these games. “Rivalry”. But this is the sort of thing that interleague play has diminished. Now one will say, wait a minute, a regular season game can diminish an exhibition, you must be out to lunch? But really, what is the point of this series now? I hate interleague play and alas on Sunday night the first season with non-stop interleague play shall begin. Regardless, the A’s won 7-3.
  • Fernando Rodriguez had Tommy John surgery. He didn’t die and everything went accordingly. It is expected that we will again hear from him, if ever again in 12-18 months once he has recovered.
  • In other injury news, Hiroyuki Nakajima will see the doctor today regarding his hamstring. Seems from the way Bob Melvin is speaking, that Nakajima will not be in Oakland to start the season whether it be an MiLB primer in Sacramento or the disabled list.
  • Conner Crumbliss will be in San Francisco for the Series. He has some really great numbers in the MiLB spending last season with Midland hitting .257/.414/.391 with a .374 wOBA and 134 wRC+. He is a real Moneyball type player, his lowest OBP coming with the Ports in 2011 when he “only” had a .404 OBP.
  • Lineup versus the Giants looks like a potential for the regular season: Coco Crisp CF, Jed Lowrie SS, Josh Reddick RF, Yoenis Cespedes LF, Brandon Moss 1B, Josh Donaldson 3B, John Jaso C, Eric Sogard 2B, Tommy Milone RHP. Cespedes had a monster home run off of Tim Lincecum. Reddick had a big dinger off of Jeremy Affeldt. Milone started and he was followed up by Pat Neshek, Jerry Blevins, Jordan Norberto and Evan Scribner.
