Update from PHX: February 18

February 18, 2013
  • The A’s are apparently close to signing Mexican League infielder Antonio Lamas. The 23-year-old second baseman spent 2012 with the Acereros de Monclova hitting .336/.383/.523 in 504 plate appearances. Don’t know much about him but the A’s have found luck in the Mexican League in the past (see Bobby Cramer).
  • It is photo day for the A’s.
  • Jarrod Parker and Tommy Milone will be brought along more slowly this spring Bob Melvin reports. It seems that that probably is given their heavy usage last season (181 1/3 and 190 innings respectively) and youth.
  • Michael Ynoa is going to throw in the Dominican League prior to coming stateside. He has been sidelined by chicken pox but is expected to be in big league camp on Thursday.
