Recker Headed to Cubs

August 27, 2012

A week ago when Anthony Recker was designated for assignment, I wrote,

“I don’t know if Recker, who will be 29 next week and isn’t a traditional prospect, draws interest like a typical catcher may but I don’t have trouble seeing another team making a waiver claim on him… I have to think another team might give him a shot, though I’d love to see him stay in the A’s system as I think he is probably better organizational filler than he has shown at the MLB level.”

It appears as if my suspicions are correct as the A’s didn’t let him get to waivers and instead have dealt him to the Chicago Cubs. It is unknown presently what is headed back Oakland’s way but I can’t envision it being particularly much. In the end, Recker who was with the big league club out of spring training participated in 13 games in Oakland, putting up a .129/.250/.161 slash line in his 37 plate appearances. On his career with the A’s he played in a total of 18 games, accumulating 58 plate appearances and hitting .146/.281/.188 with a .231 wOBA and 42 wRC+ for a total value of -0.1 WAR. This year he has spent most of his time in Sacramento with the River Cats where he had 229 plate appearances putting up a .265/.358/.435 slash line with a .355 wOBA and 108 wRC+ in 52 contests.
