Anderson Reinstated; Straily Optioned
The A’s have activated Brett Anderson from the disabled list. He had been pitching previously in Sacramento on a rehab assignment where in 23 1/3 innings he put up 6.9 K/9, 1.9 BB/9, and 1.5 HR/9 good for a 4.63 ERA and a 4.66 FIP. Anderson looked good last season before going down with injury putting up 6.6 K/9, 2.7 BB/9 and 0.9 HR/9 with an even 4.00 ERA and 3.96 FIP. The move was anticipated and also as expected Dan Straily was the one sent shipping to Sacramento.
Straily, professional baseball’s strikeout leader, went 17 innings in Oakland throwing 6.4 K/9, 2.1 BB/9 and 2.1 BB/9 with a 3.18 ERA and 5.45 FIP. With the crazy home run rate, xFIP shows him as being a bit better with a 4.82 mark. Straily’s problem really is though that he isn’t getting many groundballs (28.3%) so even with the normalizing of the HR/FB (14.3%) the xFIP still suffers from the long ball frequency. This ought to be a good tune up for him and I suspect we see him back in Oakland before long.
