A’s Sign Chris Ray

Chris Ray was signed by the A’s today. Ray was released by the Cleveland Indians organization six days ago, after spending all of 2012 in Columbus with the Triple-A Clippers where he posted a 2.75 ERA and 3.39 FIP in 36 innings of 7.5 K/9, 4.3 BB/9 and 0.3 HR/9 across his 33 appearances. The 30-year old reliever, has 281 MLB innings to his name from 2005-2011 mostly with the Orioles but most recently with Seattle. In that time he has managed 7.4 K/9, 3.9 BB/9 and 1.1 HR/9 for a 4.10 ERA and 4.66 FIP and a grand total of 1.1 WAR.

Ray seems like good organizational filler, and I would not be shocked to see him make an appearance in Oakland as some sort of September call up type later on though he would need to be added to the 40-man roster and what could prompt that at least at this point is not immediately clear. He will be reporting to Triple-A Sacramento.
