Inge to DL; Rosales Recalled
Another one bites the dust. The A’s injury machine keeps ticking as Brandon Inge was placed on the 15-day disabled list today with a strained right groin. I found this a bit surprising to be honest, as when I saw the A’s in Anaheim on Monday Inge launched a massive home run in batting practice high into the batter’s eye in center field. Surely that required some lower body strength but apparently he is unable to perform. The move is retroactive to May 13th meaning he can come off the disabled list May 28th.
In response the A’s added Adam Rosales. Rosales was already with the club playing one forgotten game in Japan as a defensive replacement never stepping to the plate. In Sacramento Rosales had a .277/.314/.438 slash line, which is not so impressive when you take that he had a .340 BABIP, and while BABIP is higher in Sacramento and the PCL, that slash line isn’t very impressive and becomes less so when those factors are accounted for. In his 140 plate appearances with the River Cats Rosales has managed two home runs, has walked only 5.7% of the time and has struck out 21.4% of the time he strode to the plate. Inge was off to a quick start to his Athletics tenure, so for now he will be missed while Rosales is someone I find quite uninspiring and uninteresting as a ballplayer and don’t anticipate he will stick around for long.
