Barton Placed on the DL

April 3, 2012

The A’s placed Daric Barton on the disabled list today. Reported Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle,

“it was not really a surprise that Barton was placed on the DL today, and it’s retroactive to March 24, so he’d be eligible to come off on Sunday. If he feels as if he can go everyday soon, he might not miss much time at all.”

Well it came as a surprise to me. This seems to be a case of the A’s trying to delay a decision regarding Brandon Allen and Kila Ka’aihue. Clearly neither have done that. This gives them a very short audition to secure a roster spot, my guess if either is expendable it is Ka’aihue, both players are out of options. I felt that Barton would be optioned to Sacramento, but it seems the A’s don’t want to burn the option on him just yet and are big believers in him. He is getting every opportunity to get back this spot he so vehemently attempted to discard with last year’s clunker of a season that included him hiding an injury. A’s have one more roster cut to get them to 25 – my guess is it is Andrew Carignan.
