Recap: A’s @ Giants ST Game 17

March 17, 2012

Always nice when you can pick up two wins in one day but Oakland did not do that today by being felled by their cross-bay rival San Francisco Giants 7-2 in Scottsdale. The A’s Cactus League record stands at 12-4.

  • Daric Barton had a solid outing today, his first of the spring, and his first game actually playing first base. He went 2-for-2 with a walk. The first hit was a double, the second a single both off of Tim Lincecum so they weren’t cheap ones off some Double-A pitcher. The walk for what it is worth also came off a legit MLB pitcher, Giants closer Brian Wilson.
  • With just two runs on nine hits, no one really stood out. Collin Cowgill had the best game going 2-for-4 with one of his hits being a triple off of Lincecum. Cowgill has been having arguably the best spring of any A’s player (Cliff Pennington being a key competitor for that honor) making an argument for a spot on this roster somehow despite such a full outfield.
  • Rough outings for both starter Tommy Milone (four innings, four earned runs, allowing five hits and striking out two) including a two run home run to Ryan Theriot. Andrew Carignan who has had a good spring had an even worse outing, one and two-thirds innings of three hit, three run (two earned) baseball with two strikeouts. He allowed two home runs, both solo shots, to Angel Pagan and Pablo Sandoval.

Um…the A’s *lost* 7-2 to the Giants. I guess a good St. Patrick’s Day celebration makes everything seem better.

I don’t normally edit posts, but I did this one to reflect that. I couldn’t get my to work ever on this game, so I was boxscore watching. Lord knows how I screwed up that, but as always keeping me honest!
